This Time Last Year

Happy holidays to you all.

However you may feel about this time of year, whether you're a gung-ho season's greetings gal like me, or a bah-humbug pessimist, one thing Christmas provides is perspective. Can you believe it? This is a picture of Mak, same time, last year.

Where were you last year?

No, really: Where were you? What promises did you make to yourself? What hopes did you have for the new year? Did you succeed or misstep? How so? Is everyone you love still with you? Are you healthy? Did you make some fresh dreams?

One thing I feel this year? Grateful. Grateful that my husband talked me into the best thing I ever did. Grateful for a terrific family, a super-helpful mom and some first-class inlaws. I'm glad beyond words that I married The Varmint, my best friend, and that we are better friends now than when we were first married. (Plus, he's a hottie.)

I'm grateful for my friends, some of whom are family in every sense of the word except DNA. For Megan, Jenny, Deb and Donna: Thank you. And: Damn!

I'm grateful that we have work, that our tiny little house is near enough to the coast that we can smell the ocean, that it is ours and that we have so much to live for and look forward to.

Life is good.
