A Little to the Right

Yesterday morning, I awoke to the scramblings of my 1.5 year old.

Pretty soon, I had teeny little fingers propping open my eyelids, and her grinning face and little voice squealing in my ears, "HI MOMMY!"

I provided my usual grunting response, trying to wake up slowly while keeping my face buried in the pillow. Within a second or two, I feel her warm little hands pulling back the covers, and gently moving my hair away from my back. And then - Lord God bless us all, I knew I had a kid for a reason! - she starts to rub my back in sweet little circles.

"Mmmmmm!" I say, feeling a sense of overwhelming pride for my sweet-tempered, affectionate toddler as I wallow in the joy of that furtive little backrub. "What a love-bug you are! Thank you, Baby!"

The patting and rubbing continues for a moment, then stops.

Suddenly she calls out, as if calling for the cat to hurry up and come get his dinner, "BOOOOOOOOBIES! WHERE AAARRRRRE YOU?!!"
