Girls' Day Out: Laguna Beach

Deb has been OTV (on the verge) for a couple of weeks, now. So when she asked for a little getaway, Jen and I took her seriously: You don't mess around when a mother of two is threatening to leave home without a forwarding address, people. The woman needs a break.

Our weekend getaway turned into a Saturday drive. So, this morning our little threesome is hopping into my car and hightailing it an hour and a half north to the fine city of Laguna Beach, no boys or babies allowed.

We have no plans as to what we're going to do when we get there or how long we're going to stay, but I'm fairly certain it involves eating and shopping and then more eating. We'll probably throw in some lollygagging. That's good enough for me. Deb_Runaway.jpg

The truth is, there is a lot of similarity between Laguna Beach and San Diego - especially the part of San Diego called La Jolla: Both boast world-class beaches, overpriced art galleries that mostly feature landscapes, upscale shops and snooty atmospheres.

But sometimes, a change of scenery is mandated, a place where you don't know where to go and no one knows you.

Sometimes, it's a balm to know you're hours away from your responsibilities and that you can't be reached.

Sometimes that's all it takes for the fantasy of running away from it all to be replaced with the reality that you've got it pretty damn good. At least that's what Deb's hoping for.

On the other hand, who knows? Maybe we'll just keep driving...
